Lewis brings a deep-rooted foundation in residential construction, shaped
by a family legacy spanning multiple generations of builders.

After relocating from the Pacific Northwest to South Carolina in 1998, he co-founded a construction company with his brother-in-law, specializing in poured wall foundations and flat concrete work.

In 2007, Lewis earned his South Carolina Residential Builder's License, marking a pivotal step in expanding his expertise into full-scale home building. Recognizing his passion for the craft, he transitioned toward residential construction and, in 2016, established Merit Builders alongside his wife, Courtney.

Lewis and Courtney bring complementary skill sets to the business. Courtney oversees the company's financial operations while also contributing her design expertise—from developing house plans to selecting colors and finishes for spec homes. Lewis manages day-to-day site operations, ensuring each project is executed to the highest standard.

Merit Builders is a family-driven enterprise, headquartered in Landrum, SC, and is committed to delivering quality craftsmanship and personalized service on every build.

Meet The Builder
Lewis Aho

Lewis grew up in the residential construction industry with a builder father, uncles and several cousins, all in the family tradition. After moving from the Pacific Northwest to South Carolina in 1998, Lewis began his own company with a brother in law not long after living here. That company was primarily a concrete company focusing on poured wall foundations and some flat concrete work.

In 2007, Lewis obtained his South Carolina Residential Builder’s license. Lewis began integrating home building into his work load and found that he really enjoyed it. After several years of building homes under his concrete company Lewis and his wife, Courtney, together formed Merit Builders in 2016. Lewis and Courtney are an excellent team and work great at splitting tasks. While you will find Courtney in the office handling all the bookkeeping, her real passion is designing! She loves to come up with house plans and has a good eye at picking colors and finishes for their spec homes.

Lewis spends his days out on the job sites seeing that everything is running smoothly, and he has various tasks he does himself on each house. And it doesn’t stop there, Merit Builders is a family affair – you may see one of our 5 children helping out occasionally on the job! Lewis and Courtney reside in Landrum, SC on their farm with their 5 children.
